Spring Clean Your Photo Stream

Mar 19, 2024

On this first day of Spring I want to encourage you to spring clean your photo stream! You probably have hundreds, maybe even thousands, of duplicates, screenshots and videos you don't need anymore and they're taking up some much needed space on your phone!

Lucky for you, all it takes is a few clicks to get rid of all that junk which will make finding future photos so much easier, not to mention save you some much needed storage space on your phone!

STEP #1- DELETE DUPLICATES
We often take multiple photos of the exact same moment, which creates a ton of digital clutter! Deleting duplicates is probably the easiest and best way to clean up your photo stream!

iPhone/Apple Users

  1. Open the Photos app from your phone
  2. Click "Albums" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
  3. Scroll down to the "Utilities" section and click on "Duplicates"
  4. You can merge the photos one row at a time OR all of them at once by following the steps below:
  5. Click "Select" in the top right corner
  6. Click "Select All" in the top left corner
  7. Click Merge "#" at the bottom of your screen
  8. Choose either "Merge # Exact Copies Only" OR "Merge # items" to clean up ALL of your duplicates

Android/ Google Photos Users
Google Photos does not have an option to delete duplicates in mass quantities so you will have to do this manually one set at a time.

  1. Open Google Photos from your phone
  2. Click "Photos" at the bottom of your screen
  3. Scroll through and find multiple copies one set at a time
  4. Find your favorite of the set and delete the rest- don't overthink this process or you won't make progress

STEP #2- DELETE SCREENSHOTS
Screenshots are a quick and easy way to capture information from an email, text or even off the internet. And while we need that information in the moment, once it's passed we can get rid of all those photos taking up space on our phone!

iPhone/Apple Users

  1. Open the Photos app from your phone
  2. Click "Albums" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
  3. Scroll down to the "Media Types" section and click on "Screenshots"

  2. Click "Search" at the bottom of your screen
  3. Type "Screenshots" in the search bar at the top of your screen
  4. Delete any/all screenshots you don't need/want anymore

STEP #3- DELETE VIDEOS
You might have some videos on your phone you accidentally took or don't need anymore and deleting them will save you quite a bit of space!

iPhone/Apple Users

  1. Open the Photos app from your phone
  2. Click "Albums" from the menu at the bottom of your screen
  3. Scroll down to the "Media Types" section and click on "Videos"
  4. Delete any videos you don't need/want anymore
