Adding Info to Your Digital Pictures

photo app tips tips & tricks Mar 07, 2023

While it doesn't seem that long ago, it has been decades since we had to PRINT pictures in order to see moments we captured on film.

We would pick up our little envelopes from the grocery store and flip through a couple of dozen pictures we took over days, weeks or even months! We would even add details such as names, dates and places to the backs of the photos to ensure we wouldn't forget anything important down the road!

Lucky for us, digital pictures automatically capture a lot of that information for us! However, if you are the forgetful type or want to make sure your kids and grandkids can access information not obvious by looking at the photo, you can still add details to your digital pictures in just a few clicks!

Details to think about adding:

  • Someone's name (I swear names get harder and harder to remember the older you get)
  • What birthday you're celebrating for a loved one (ex: Bill's 77th Birthday!)
  • The name of a cute little restaurant you found on vacation
  • Purpose of a vacation (Business Trip to visit XYZ Company)

You get the drift! Add anything you think might be helpful down the road that you most certainly won't even remember next week!

Apple Users

  1. Open the Apple Photos App from your phone
  2. Find and open a picture you want to add details to
  3. Click the "i" with a circle around it at the bottom of your screen
  4. This menu will show you all of the information about that picture such as the time and place it was taken
  5. Click "Add a Caption" right below the picture
  6. A keyboard will pop up and you can add a FEW simple details such as someone's name, what the occasion was for or anything else you might want to remember in the future
  7. Click "Done" in the top right corner
  8. Click on the photo to exit that menu
  9. The description will not show up on your actual photo but can be accessed by clicking on the "i" with the circle at the bottom of your screen anytime you need it and from any device when logging into Apple Photos

Google Photos Users

  1. Open the Google Photos App from your phone
  2. Click "Photos" at the bottom of your screen
  3. Find and open a picture you want to add details to
  4. Click the 3 dots in the top right corner of your screen
  5. This will pull up a menu with all of the information about that picture such as the time and place it was taken
  6. Click "Add description" below the date
  7. A keyboard will pop up and you can add a FEW simple details such as someone's name, what the occasion was for or anything else you might want to remember in the future
  8. Click on the photo when you're done in order to exit the keyboard (you might have to click on the photo twice)
  9. The description will not show up on your actual photo but can be accessed by clicking on the 3 dots again anytime you need it and from any device when logging into Google Photos

Practice adding details to a few pictures now so when you need it down the road you will have the muscle memory to remember how to do it!

All the best,
